visit EUREKA Montana
Eureka, Montana is located on U.S. Highway 93 just 8 miles south of the Canadian Border. Nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, Eureka is located between the Whitefish and Purcell mountain ranges in an area generally known as the banana belt. The Kootenai National Forest surrounds our picturesque town, along the Tobacco River, in the Tobacco Valley.
The Tobacco Valley has close to 1500 year round residents, and our numbers swell to roughly double that during the summer months, as we are a popular getaway for second home owners. We have elementary and middle schools in Eureka, Trego and Fortine that feed Lincoln County High School in Eureka. Our once strong logging and ranching industries are shifting to construction, property sales and a tourism-based commerce. Eureka has a relaxed pace and a genuine authenticity, we don’t have stoplights, and the nearest strip mall is over 50 miles away and that’s fine by most folks in the area.
Boasting some of the the states mildest climates with spectacular and diverse scenery, visitors to our Valley enjoy outstanding recreational opportunities. Adjacent to the Tobacco River and many surrounding Lakes are naturally forested areas catering to all outdoor enthusiasts. Popular areas include Lake Koocanusa, Sophie, Glen, Dickey, and the famed Ten Lakes Scenic Area, and of course Glacier Park is just a short 40-mile drive, if you know the right back roads. Our lakes are the focus of hikers and fisherman alike, the rivers and lakes have thriving rainbow, cutthroat, pike, and kokanee salmon populations. The Area abounds in large wildlife such as elk, deer, moose, black bear, mountain lion, wolves, bighorn sheep and the grizzly bear.
The town of Eureka supports a variety of restaurants, galleries, and souvenir shops. Centrally located between Ski hills in Whitefish MT and Fernie BC, Eureka also is home to golfing communities, sandy beaches, and weekend rodeos. For annual festivals such as Rendezvous Days, the Eureka Montana Quilt Show, the Lincoln County Fair, and Rodeo the streets swell with neighbors from Canada and the Flathead Valley sharing in the fun. The Tobacco Valley Historical Village located south of town on the river provides a glimpse of area history with its unique collections from the late 1800’s and early 1920’s. When planning your next vacation or holiday trip, don’t forget to consider a stop in Eureka, just 4 hours northeast of Spokane, WA and 60 miles north of the Glacier National Park Airport!
